Puppet shows have always been a popular activity for kids, especially when you have a whole group of younger children gathered together at a birthday party. Preparing for a puppet show can be a great way to spend time with your kids having a lot of fun. Follow these tips for preparing everything you need for putting on a fantastic birthday party puppet show.

Making Stuffed Toy Puppet Characters Is Exciting For Kids

Making stuffed toy puppets can be an exciting way to spend time with your kids. You do not need a lot of expensive supplies to make stuffed sock puppets. Gather the following materials for making stuffed puppets:

  • A few pairs of old socks. You will need two socks for one puppet, so be sure to get enough pairs for the number of characters you will need for your show. Be sure to select different colors for adding a colorful flair to your creations.
  • A bag of cotton or fiber stuffing material. You can purchase stuffing material at most department stores in the sewing department. Remember to choose stuffing that is appropriate for the age of your child.
  • Strong rubber bands
  • Hot glue gun
  • Buttons and colored felt
  • Scissors

Fill the toe of a sock with stuffing, just enough to make a head. Once filled, take a rubber band and place around the end of the sock, tying off the stuffing in the head. Fill the middle of the sock to the heel part, leaving it loose so you can pull parts of it out for arms. Pull out a small pocket of sock material with stuffing it from the middle of the sock and tie it off with a rubber band. Make another arm on the other side of the sock in the same way. Once the arms are made, tie of the bottom of the sock at the heel using another rubber band.

Cut down the middle off the unstuffed part of the sock, tying off the end of each strand to form feet. (Each strand will be a leg)

Personalizing Puppets Is The Best Part

Turning the plain stuffed body of a sock puppet into a creature is great fun, especially for kids with big imaginations. Cut eyes, noses and other detailed [parts from colored felt. Use the hot glue gun to paste on eyes, noses and mouths. You can also use buttons for eyes. Using felt strips to make hair is a good idea. Felt comes in a huge assortment of colors, so purchasing several sheets of each color is a great way to enhance the creativity of this project.

Story Time Can Be An Educational Experience

Your kids may want to follow a story they enjoy from one of their books. However, encouraging your children to make up their own story is a great way to foster their creativity. When coming up with a story for the puppet show, remember to keep in mind a backdrop that best suits it. A cardboard box is the perfect choice for a stage. By using a cardboard box, your kids will be able to draw parts of their story on it for the show.

Spending time with your kids having fun is always good. Try to make some stuffed toys for your children.
